The World According to Victoria

Wonderful World of Victoria

Welcome to Victoria's World. She's a happy, rambunctious, curious pre-schooler. There's no end to the adventures to be had when you're turning into a little girl. Here's to watching the transformation.

  Not Quite How I Planned
to spend the day.
Victoria spent the morning playing Dora the Explorer Save the Snow Princess on the PlayStation. She did manage to take a break and eat some breakfast before going right back to the game. Amazing the level of concentration she has. She finished the game by the way. Probably let her play way too long. She used the age old phrase... "Just a little bit longer, Mom."

Another break for some lunch. She ate mostly goldfish. Wish I could figure out what the next big food will be for her. So far I'm striking out. I left her playing the game while I took a shower. I guess she'd finished the game while I was in the shower because she came in to ask if she could play another part of the game.

When I got out, she talked me into playing the Dora the Explorer game with her. I had to find a second controller for that. I managed to get the wireless game controller to work. Yay! I played Boots. We were doing some kind of two player competition. Thank goodness it's not too difficult. Guess I'm at the level of a pre-schooler. :)

I managed to get her dressed. She looks adorable in the new skort I bought on sale at The Childrens Place. Jeff will tell you I've spent way too much on clothes for Victoria this year. Can't help it.. she's interested in wearing skirts finally. And, I'm not interested in doing laundry too often.

I've suggested going grocery shopping a couple times. :) Obviously I'm not making much progress as we're still here and it's almost 4pm. She's gone off each time and played quietly by herself. She's only asked once to watch TV and once to play the game again. Each time when I've said no, she's gone back to playing by herself.

I bought some cheap gel window clings at CVS when we went to get her medicine after I found out we'd be home for next couple days. We got red and blue stars and some summery clings (sun, waves, beach ball, flip flops, swim suits). They've been an endless source of amusement for Victoria. She makes up all kinds of stories and games to go with it. She puts them on the window and takes them off and puts them back on the plastic sheets.

Not quite how I pictured spending our Saturday on our own. She's happy the way she's playing so I guess I can't complain.

We were just home from the beach. Victoria and I went outside to put the tomato cages on the tomatoes. Well, she helped a little. Mostly she wanted to kick the ball around.

  Catching up again....
Well, I'm finally catching up with some of the layouts again. I seem to let it lapse for weeks while I'm in a creative mood. Then I have to do the catch-up thing to actually get them on the blog. I'm going to experiment on Facebook too. I'll let you know if I get them up there.

Finally, a chance to wear short sleeves outside. Probably could have put Victoria in shorts too. If I had any of her new ones washed. Still, didn't matter much. We had a lot of fun anyway.

  Back to Fischer Park
I found another picture from Fischer Park that I made a layout with. This was really funny. Victoria turned the slide in the kids playground into a pirate ship.Click on picture for larger.
Journaling reads:
I’m Captain Victoria and you’re Captain Mommy and you’re Captain Daddy and this is our pirate ship. You have to come up here and get on board.

Journaling reads: "Where did you get that habit, Victoria? Recognize it, Nana? I haven’t chewed my hair in ages. What, do you inherit bad habits along with your genes too? Sorry, girl, you got this one from me too. And yes, Nana, I do realize how annoying a habit it is now."

  A Rare Weekend Off
It's been a tough couple weeks. I've been working most of them. We decided to take this one off to spend together. I ignored the housework, the dishes, the laundry, the weeding... all of it for the weekend. We played this weekend.

Yesterday we went off and had lunch at the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Victoria had a chance to ride on the Merry-Go-Round. I did a little shopping. Then we went to the movie theater and saw Wall-E. Not too sure how Victoria felt about it. I don't think it was one of the better Disney/Pixar movie collabs. I think it was a little heavy-handed on the morality tale. It relied too heavily on visual cues that the younger kids don't get. I spent a lot of the movie whispering with Victoria because she kept asking what was going on. That's rare for her. She usually settles in and absorbs the movie, but not for this one.

Today we went adventuring. When I got detoured off my usual road, I ended up having to drive further along Morris Road and cut over to Skippack another way. This detour took me by Fischer Park. I'd seen some kids playground equipment in there and thought it might make a fun outing with a picnic.

So today we put together a picnic and headed out to the park. Surprise! The park was far more extensive than I'd realized. It had three playground areas for different age kids. A creek runs along the side and back of the park, as far as I could tell. Looks like you can do some fishing in the creek, mostly sunnys and panfish now. There's a waterfall over a dam at one point where the level drops. At that point, you could walk out onto the rocks in the creek. The trails are well marked and vary from macadam to gravel to dirt. We hiked along some of them but certainly didn't see the whole park.

Victoria had a great time. She wandered between the various playgrounds. The playground set up for 4-8 year olds seemed to be her favorite. It had the standard jungle gym type slides as well as some swings, a sandbox, and some bouncy rides. I have plenty of pictures so you'll no doubt be able to see all about the playground. (and the park.)

  Why?
We've entered the 'why' phase. I just had to document it.

Journaling reads:

I guess it’s that time now. We’ve entered the ‘why?’ phase. I knew it was coming. We went through the ‘what?’ phase. It was natural to progress to ‘why?’. I’m a little ambivalent about this one though. On one hand, it’s annoying as can be.. to be questioned all the time and to have every answer followed by another ‘why?’ as you continue to try to understand your world. On the other hand, it can be pretty funny especially when Daddy turns the tables on you and starts asking you the ‘why?’ question. Good sport that you are, you took it in stride. Although, I wonder if I can get away with your response of "no why".

  Spots and Dots

Journaling reads:
How typical for us! You had your tonsils and adenoids just removed in January. You haven’t had an ear infection since then.. Instead, what do you get? Impetigo! My poor girl. Someday your immune system will be up to handling these bugs. In the meantime, you get days home with either Mom or Dad, watching TV on the couch, sucking down popsicles, and painting art. Okay... so maybe it’s not so bad to have spots and dots.

  Toys and Water
Click on picture for larger version.

Journaling reads:

You didn’t want to go shopping with your Dad this morning. You threw quite a temper tantrum, run up to your bedroom to huddle in your bed. It didn’t take long for that to wear off. And you were allowed out of your room if you agreed to go shopping. So with toys in hand, off to the grocery store you went. Guess it wasn’t such a bad thing because you came home with squirt toys. Oh boy, were they a hit. We had to try them out in a variety of buckets and situations. You tried squirting Mommy... of course you hadn’t left the ball in the water long enough to fill it up. I wasn’t much in danger of getting wet. Then there were the flowers that you wanted to water. That turned out marginally well since Mommy put the balls in and got them to soak up water. I guess I should say that we had fun with the squirt toys today.

Rain, Rain... Stay Awhile and Play
Victoria found the spring rain to be fun. We came home from work and school. She couldn't wait to get outside with her umbrella. She had so much fun with it. And, well, I had fun with the camera again. Still learning the various settings on it, but I'm getting better at switching back and forth and changing lenses.

  Sprinklers

An unseasonable warm spring day. Jeff had seeded the front lawn a week or so ago and it needed watering. And, letting Victoria take advantage.

We were all at home having taken Victoria to her follow up doctor's appointment with the ENTs. Everything went well. Her tubes are in place. Her hearing checked out.

We got out the new swimsuits and let Victoria choose. Dug around in the closets to find the beach towels. We were all set for some water fun. And, boy, was it fun. You just have to look at the smile on her face to tell how much she enjoyed it. Looking forward to more fun this summer.

  Accomplishments
So, yesterday we took Victoria to McDonalds for dinner so that she could play in the indoor Playland. She enjoys it. We get a meal that I don't have to cook. And, it runs some of the energy out of her.

Victoria made her way all the way to the top of the structure. Up until last night, she'd only gone halfway up and taken the lower slide. I couldn't believe it when we realized she'd gone up yet another level and taken the higher slide down. We cheered for her. She was so excited. She had to do it over and over. And, had such a great night!

A Typical Weekend (or Back to Normal)
A couple new layouts to document the last couple days. Victoria has gotten a little better each day. Friday was probably our best, most normal day and a good indicator that Victoria is ready to go back to daycare. She's finally off all the medications. While I think she still tires a little earlier than she used to, she's getting her strength back.

Today we took her out to the Mall. She wanted to go outside but with the temperature dropping and the wind whipping around, it was just too cold. We had fun. She got to ride the kiddie rides until we ran out of change. She rode the escalators up and down, and the elevator too. We ate dinner there in the Food Court.

Then she helped Mom and Dad try out the Elliptical exercises in Sears. I kept threatening to get one of the treadmills. I thought I'd put her on one and make her run like a hamster. She didn't think much of the idea.

We nearly got blown away walking back to the car. I had to wrap my scarf around my head to keep my hair under control. Victoria thought it was great fun. She was laughing as we were blown along.

I'm posting a few more scrapbook pages that I managed to get done recently. It's so much easier to work on the recent pictures rather than the ones from the past. I want to capture the everyday moments as we experience them.

I really do want to go back and put some of the older photos on scrapbook pages too. They have stories to be told if I can remember them.

And, yes, I will have some more vacation photos for you. :) I'm getting to them... well, eventually.

  Victoria Funny #2
Victoria asked for a treat tonight. She wanted the M&M's from the Easter egg that is kept on the hutch. We told her that she couldn't have a treat tonight. She threw a fit... the whole show... hysterics, tears and all. Finally she got over it and went off to play. She came back into the kitchen while Daddy and I were finishing dinner. She started playing with the boost (step ladder) and shoving it around the table.

Victoria: "I need to look for hippopotomus."
Mommy: "Where's the hippopotomus, Victoria?"
Victoria: "I need to move the chair. I have to get there." (Pointing to the hutch behind Mommy's shoulder.)

Of course, this is the very same place where the Easter egg with the M&Ms in it resides. We had to laugh. It was very inventive.

Victoria: "No, I'm Victoria."

  Everyday Moments
I loved these pictures of Victoria. For one, I don't often talk her into wearing a skirt. The only way I could get her to wear them was by pointing out that there were shorts under the skirt. So, whatever works.

The other reason is harder to pin down. She's reading a coloring book. Not really a big deal. She's not so interested in coloring them right now. In most cases, she likes the activities in the coloring books. This is her Winnie the Pooh coloring book though so it doesn't have activities. Instead she was making up stories to go with the pictures. Well, for some of them. Mom still had to add some description too. But it shows this beginning imagination. I could just sit and watch her if she'd let me. Mom and Dad are still some of her most favorite toys though.

  Giddy'up
Not sure why I snapped this picture. I think it's cute. Of course, I think most pictures of Victoria are cute. She was having fun riding on her rocking horse. for some reason I think this is one of those pictures where she told me she wanted her picture taken. Some days are like that. If she has a nice smile instead of a funny face then she probably wanted the picture taken. How's that for toddler logic.
