The World According to Victoria

Wonderful World of Victoria

Welcome to Victoria's World. She's a happy, rambunctious, curious pre-schooler. There's no end to the adventures to be had when you're turning into a little girl. Here's to watching the transformation.

  Happy Thanksgiving!
Victoria playing Assassin's Creed 2. She watched Uncle Ben play and then took over the controller.
Yum! I didn't contribute nearly as much to this Thanksgiving dinner. Aunt Claudine keeps it pretty well orchestrated. Look at all that wonderful food. This dinner is always a treat each year.

Didn't get nearly everyone in the shot but I wanted to get to the food too. LOL! Sorry Uncle Matt and Uncle Ben. I'm sure you're totally disappointed to have missed being in the photo.

  July 4th mini vacation
Or... is that what they're calling a Stay-cation nowadays?

Anyway, we stayed home and did day trips for the holiday. Here are a few favorites.

At the Baltimore Aquarium:

This picture cracks me up. Get a load of the pose, the pointing finger, and the pout.

Obviously she gets her sense of direction from her mother.

We're in the Animal Planet Australia section:

Really loved it in there. Hard to read the text on this picture. It says, "Victoria really enjoyed the Animal Planet Australia exhibit. I think the turtles were the biggest hit there. She found them in quite a few of the tanks. The crocodiles were probably a close second."

Not unexpectedly, another big hit... the Dolphin show:

I got to try out my 70-300mm lens. Loved it. Not quite as fast on the focus as the 55-200mm. But still, some excellent photos of the dolphins in action.

A Little More Dutch Wonderland Fun

She has so much fun on the swings. I know she loves it. But it's one of the few rides that I won't go on. She and Daddy have both ridden the swings but not me.

She's such a goof sometimes. We sat off the asphalt path while Victoria had her snow cone. She ended up with grape because that's the only flavor he had. She enjoyed it just the same. She was horsing around after she ate a good bit of the snow cone. Here she's being silly.

  Baltimore Aquarium

Rather than doing a long weekend somewhere, we decided to do day trips over the 4th of July holiday. On Thursday we took Victoria to the Baltimore Aquarium. It was pretty crowded for a week day. We tried to get in between waves of people so that Victoria could get a chance to see the exhibits. She's getting a little more assertive at making her way to the front so she can see. I didn't get very many good pictures. I would have been better off with a point and shoot, I think. Here's Victoria plastered against one of the displays. I think she's looking at turtles.

We loved the dolphin show. I think that was the highlight of the day for Victoria. She couldn't wait to get to our showtime. As soon as the time was close enough, she dragged us over to the dolphin pier. They were amazing.

Here's Victoria outside of the Aquarium on the pier next to the USS Torsk. She was giving me quite the faces.

  Early Egg Hunt
We visited Claudine's church to participate in their Easter holiday program and egg hunt. It was a rocky start as expected. I had a very upset Victoria on my lap for the first part of the program. She clung to me through the songs and the Easter story. She started to relax with the last song. Then she wanted to do the craft. Should have figured that would pique her interest. She was more herself, though still reticent, by the time we finished the cross pin. She actually went with Aunt Claudine to get a coloring book and chose her favorite color of crayon when offered. That was a relief. Before we had a chance to start coloring in the coloring book, the pastor announced the egg hunt. Victoria was all ready for that. They were going to do it outside. It was still chilly and definitely windy but still whole loads of fun to go searching for the eggs. I wish I'd had my camera for it but it seemed more important just to be there for Victoria. We did manage to stop her around 10 eggs, but then there was a whole nother section to search so we let her go. She ended up with 26 eggs. [We counted them later.]

The pictures weren't from the church. I'd forgotten my camera and left it in the car. There wasn't time to go get it. But I got plenty of pictures later as Victoria counted her haul and examined her loot. And then we had to do more egg hunts at Aunt Claudine's house. There was plenty of pictures from that. :)

  Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

Here are some pictures from Thanksgiving at my parents house. I'm not a big one for pictures when cooking (or eating). :)

A picture of me and my brothers. You won't see that one too often.

Happy Birthday, Ben! Claudine baked an Apple Cider Cake. Yum!

Nothing pretentious here. :) The table is set with paper plates. That way everyone gets to visit after the meal and doesn't get stuck in the kitchen washing dishes for the next couple hours.

And, it worked out well. We got to visit and watch football games on the widescreen HDTV. Napping was optional, of course. :)

  Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day to everyone. We've had a mostly typical day here. :) I was woken early by Victoria who joined me for a brief time, and then was allowed to fall back to sleep. I worked on the computer for a bit with a cup of coffee. Then got toast and a banana for breakfast. [ I got my Mother's Day breakfast yesterday at IHOP. Beat the rush. ]

Then followed Victoria around outside. We played ball in the driveway, pulled weeds in the flower bed next to the door, planted the pansies out front and the portulaca in a container by the patio in the backyard, wrote our annual Mother's Day message in chalk, blew bubbles, hid in the turtle sandbox, chased the boats around the new water toy, and learned how to play croquet with a children's set. All in all, a rather busy day.

So we capped it off by having pizza for dinner and getting Victoria into bed, well, at her normal time. Jeff and I then had an enjoyable evening eating Mother's Day cupcakes and watching Enchanted.

  Happy Valentine's Day
Here's my girl. Doesn't she look so happy.

She had a good Valentine's Day. They had a Valentine's Day party at school. According to Victoria, she had a brownie and a cookie. I think she had some fruit too. Her class exchanged valentines. She made out. Several of the valentines came with candy. I had to open at least one for her on the way home. So I opened the m&m's. She was told only one until after dinner.

After dinner she had her choice of cupcakes or more candy from the valentine's bag. Victoria didn't think too long about that one. She went for the cupcakes.

  Happy Mother's Day!!

A very belated Happy Mother's Day to everyone. I had fun with Victoria. We wrote out the letters in chalk and spelled out Happy Mother's Day. Victoria hopped, skipped, and jumped around the words having a great time.
